Life Skills Prep: Supermarket

$7.00

Do you need practical resources that prepare your students for visits to the supermarket/grocery store?

Shopping at the supermarket can be challenging for many students. These community outings are a common life event, but can result in stress behaviors and dysregulation if children are not prepared for the sensory stimuli and social expectations.

Tempting or aversive foods, temperature changes, and waiting in line - these experiences can make children feel anxious, overstimulated, impatient, or upset. But we know from research that preparing children for novel events often leads to more positive outcomes.

As an educator, you want to teach your students practical skills that they can use in the real world. As an SLP myself, I frequently use social stories and visual schedules to help children transition and prepare for a variety of scenarios. That is why I created this resource to help children prepare for one of the most common real-world events that often gets overlooked.

All of the activities in this workbook have been vetted by educators in the field to ensure they can be used in a theme-based lesson, across a variety of age groups, and adhere to the highest quality. Inside you will find:

  1. A communication board

  2. Picture cards

  3. Inferencing activities

  4. Problem-solving activity

  5. Role play games

  6. Arts & craft activity

  7. Fun-with-food activity

  8. Sequencing activity

  9. Take home activities (emergent & fluent readers)
