48: The One About Sensory Storytelling with Author Kelsey Brown
Introduction:
This week I had the pleasure of speaking author and graduate student, Kelsey Brown! In this episode, we discuss how to incorporate sensory storytelling in therapy, what resources she has found to be helpful as a graduate student, and why she wrote the published book, Come On, Calm!
Kelsey may be an SLP graduate student, but that didn’t stop her from publishing a book that models self-soothing techniques for children through sensory and breathing tasks. The books sounds really awesome and the illustrations are incredible! After listening to this episode, I’m sure you’ll want to add it to your book collection.
In addition, I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised to learn about a new therapy strategy during our conversation. Adopted from her background in theater, Kelsey is using sensory storytelling to help kids enjoy reading, stay engaged, and better understand the book. Have you heard of this technique? If not, then you don’t want to miss her explanation of it in this episode!
